Phantasmagoria

1:  an exhibition of optical effects and illusions
2: a :  a constantly shifting complex succession of things seen or imagined
b :  a scene that constantly changes
3:  a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection, or assemblage

Sometimes, watching my Now,  life feels like optical effects and illusions, a bizarre and fantastic assemblage.  Science tells me it is an illusion. What is perceived is not the energy rushing about nor is it the mostly empty space between particles.  The very act of looking solidifies the constantly changing scene much like a photograph.

I like the fisheye lens from Olloclip.

These pictures were taken by me at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum with the Hipstamatic app, and the Olloclip fisheye lens on an iPhone 6.

Dam Bird Hunting Adventure

I had a dam adventure trying to photograph birds.

This sod truck had managed to get stuck.
Lack of experience?
Stupidity?
Someone held a gun to his head?
It blocked traffic for thirty minutes.

Look at me!  Look at me!
Flap! Flap!

I had a good dam time.
Hope you did too.

Thoughts I thunk

Escape the cult of average.

Change the lens and change reality.

The magic sword of truth.
The odd thing is we all seem to have our own truth.

People have made a lot of rules.  Rules aren’t bad.  They help in a lot of cases.  But life isn’t about rules.  Learn and teach critical thinking and what is right in a situation becomes easier to find.

Relax, take a deep breath.  Get ready.  It’s going to change.

Interesting idea

Positive Psychology  Positive psychologists seek “to find and nurture genius and talent” and “to make normal life more fulfilling”, rather than merely treating mental illness. Positive psychology is primarily concerned with using the psychological theory, research and intervention techniques to understand the positive, adaptive, creative and emotionally fulfilling aspects of human behavior.

Background

People who can see me in non-cyber space know I love shiny rocks.  I pick them up.  I carry them with me. I randomly give them away. I accept them as gifts. They sit on windowsills and tables.
This is the fourth in a series of biweekly features about sharing the gems and jewels I find along the way  (quotes, songs, thoughts, notes, websites, photos I take, photos I see).   I hope you like the shiny cyber rocks. I may update Shiny Rocks all during the day as I come across new shiny things.
If you have some shiny rocks you’d like to share leave them in the comments.   Let me know what you think.
May truth, love, and light embrace you and emanate from you.

There is a nice cave to visit.

Something new is opening in the town down the road. It looks like it will be an interesting place.

These experiments help me see new directions I could take with photography.

Black and White

I’m not a fan of winter.  The cold and gray keeps me inside.

After a while it can get depressing.

One of the nice things about winter is the bright light on clear days.

I like the contrast that light creates in black and white photographs.

White-tailed deer

The White-tailed deer is a beautiful herbivore.  I always enjoy seeing them in the yard, woods, and along the sides of the road (have to careful not to hit one). This deer is popular with hunters both for it’s antlers and meat (which is quite tasty). Sadly, hunting clubs are taking over a lot of the wild areas in the state. Even if that land is public land, once a hunting club leases it, the land is off limits to people who aren’t members of the hunting club even if they aren’t hunters.

There have been two or three deer around the house the entire time I’ve lived here (10 years).   I see them a couple of times a year in the back yard and I’ve seen one in the front yard twice.

Seeing the deer is always a surprise.  Seeing the deer and having a camera handy is a Magick all it’s own.

Christmas Break 2013 V1.2

The cold, gray, and rainy weather kept me inside the house most my Christmas break.   I did get out a few times to take pictures and visit friends and family.

I took these pictures at an art festival in Winterboro.

It was a gray, cold day.

There was still a pretty good turn out and all the local honey had been sold by the time I arrived.

One of the best known plank roads in Alabama was the Central Plank Road running from Montgomery to Winterboro, Al.  This building is the old Plank Road Station.  The Central Plank Road, built of wooden boards, was 60 miles of toll road operated from Wetumpka.  Prior to railroads this was an important artery of travel.  Circa 1850
