Happiness Project 19

I enjoy writing The Happy Things blogs. Each week I try to post 3 things that create happiness in my eternal Now. There will be apparent repetition but Now brings new and unique happinesses even to what seems old.

1.  Jake’s Fish Camp
I visit here every time I’m in the area.  Jake’s is a unique cultural experience on the banks of the Alabama River:  live music, local bands (I heard the River Rats), t-shirts, food, beverages, fishing, and a boat launch. Good times.
And, as an added bonus…CAMPING
Water
Electric
Dump station
$25 a day
$150 a week
*Prices subject to change

2.  A Kayak
The search for the appropriate kayak continues.
Considerations:
Length
Weight
Hardbody or inflatable
Transporting it
Roof racks
Tracking
Stability
Sit on or sit in
Fishing?
Smooth or rough water or both
Cost
Color
Single or tandem
Tie down straps

3.  Latte
There was a personal latte shortage for a couple of months.  I visited a coffee shop yesterday after this latte drought.  A good latte is a thing of beauty and tasty too.

A Short Hop

I visited FourStar Freightliner in Montgomery AL to set up an appointment for service work. The fast and friendly service man said bring the RV in at 8 in the morning (6.1.17).  I’ll be there.  At 13 minutes away, it’s probably not going to get any more convenient.

They’ll take a look at the air dryer, brakes, shocks, and air filters to determine what if anything needs repair.  We know they will find something.  That’s their business. Then they will check parts availability, order parts, and set up a time for me to to return for the repairs.

He said it would probably have to stay overnight one night and that it should be done before my travel date (6.12.17). I’ll find a local motel or get a tent. I lean towards the tent plan.  A tent is a good thing to own.  After all, I might want to go camping some time.  😂

Stay tuned for the next episode!

Happiness Project #11

The Happy Things Project continues.  Each week I try to post 3 things that create happiness in my eternal Now. There will be repetition but Now brings new and unique happinesses too.

1.   Zoos
I know there is controversy about zoos.  For some animals zoos may be their last hope. A well done zoo also provides a wonderful opportunity to educated people.   I enjoy taking pictures.
2.  Amazing friends
I am blessed with some amazing friends.  My godson is one. He often travels with me and inspires me.
3.  Campfires
Sitting around a campfire feels so natural and soothing. The smells and sounds of the fire and the woods at night heal my soul.  Maybe it’s in our DNA, ingrained after all those centuries of watching the fire.
When I typed this I was sitting by the fire 🔥 listing to birds sing their good night songs.  The hummingbirds flit over for one last snack.  It will be dark soon

Travel Day

Sunday is a travel day. I’m moving from The Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale AL to Davis Bayou in Mississippi. It’s only a two hour drive. I like an easy travel day.

I’ll head out around 11 am CST. The most exciting part that I am aware of will be the tunnel in Mobile on Interstate 10.

I’m on a journey.
I have no destination.
There is no time frame.
I’m looking and seeing but not searching.
I am not lost and can’t be found.
I am just on my way.

This Old Barn

This old barn is located in Natchez Trace State Park.   I was free to explore and take pictures. I could have gone inside. I was tempted.  I didn’t.  I wasn’t concerned about it falling on me. I was concerned about snakes in the dark spots.

Now it’s urban camping at Jude Travel Park. The sounds of nature have been replaced with the sounds of the city.

Drive Away Day…again

“The beginning is always today.”
― Mary Shelley

One more time around the Maypole. Drive away day is Monday, February 2, 2015. It’s like the fourth in the series. I didn’t want to announce it because I didn’t want to jinx it. All things seem to be in order and falling into place.
I leave with mixed emotions.
This area has been mine home for 30+ years.
I’m liking location independence.
My family is here.
I’m looking forward to new foods.
My playmates are here.
I am excited about new subjects for pictures.
One of my spiritual guides is here.
I own property here.
I’m curious.
Most my business affairs are centered in Alabama.
I’ve embraced the challenge of managing my affairs online.
I want to learn.
I’ll be alone.
I’m traveling with a parrot.
New people will be every where. Are they friendly, helpful, uninterested, dangerous, or……
Great for portraits?
I’ll spend a lot of time in Oak Ridge.
I’m afraid.
I’ll spend a lot of time around LA.
I’ll visit Alaska and a lot of friends between here and there and back again.
What if I break down. When will I break down?
Where will I break down?
What about money?
I’m excited.
And Internet?
And all the unknowns….
And all the knowns….
I could go on
And on
And on
And on
And
And
An
A
.
I’m leaving the nest again,
jumping and trusting my cape.
I’ll slay my dragons as long as I can.
I’ll sing and cry and laugh and pray and dance.
And I can’t, I’ll begin again.
The end is the beginning.
