Phantasmagoria

1:  an exhibition of optical effects and illusions
2: a :  a constantly shifting complex succession of things seen or imagined
b :  a scene that constantly changes
3:  a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection, or assemblage

Sometimes, watching my Now,  life feels like optical effects and illusions, a bizarre and fantastic assemblage.  Science tells me it is an illusion. What is perceived is not the energy rushing about nor is it the mostly empty space between particles.  The very act of looking solidifies the constantly changing scene much like a photograph.

I like the fisheye lens from Olloclip.

These pictures were taken by me at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum with the Hipstamatic app, and the Olloclip fisheye lens on an iPhone 6.

3 Things Going On In April

1.  Gunter Hill Campground ⛺️
This is one of my favorite campgrounds. I will stay here the limit of 14 days camped along the shore of the Alabama River.  This is where I currently have my World Headquarters.

2.   NOLA
I am excited about the upcoming move to New Orleans.  I have a month scheduled there.

3.    Easter
For some it is the yearly Christian celebration of Jesus returning from the grave.

“New life ”

And for others it is the spring fertility festival.

“Fertility”

In both cases it is the celebration of returning life after the passage through the cold and dark.

Travel Day

Today is a travel day. That seems so odd to me. I’ve been stationary so much in the past  months not moving has become my habit. Before all this, rolling was my habit. How quickly I’ve adapted to a stationary/sedentary lifestyle.  I need to roll on and get back to that routine.

I’ve got my moving day checklist and I’m working it. I don’t want to leave something undone.  It’s no fun to have items rolling/flying about, doors or windows banging open and closed, or possessions accidentally left behind.  There are many things to check and it’s easy to overlook some.  I have before.

Prayers and/or good vibes are greatly appreciated. I’m headed to Minooka Park. It is not far (10 miles) but I’m out of practice. Plus I have to back in. I’m not good at backing in without a spotter.  Maybe I can get someone to help at the park.

Traveling Style

Someone asked if coddiwomple was my method of travel.  I immediately knew the answer was a resounding “Yes!”   I have notions of where I may go.  I like New Orleans.  I like to be warm.  I like new experiences.   I like the west.  I like seeing my family and friends. These things influence my journey.  All that being said, I often travel through the vast “cone of confusion” and that’s good too because it always goes somewhere interesting.  I’ve spent the last month or so in the cone of confusion and more is on the horizon. It is quite exciting.  So coddiwomple it is.

I have never been much of a “year in review” kind of guy. I am even less interested in looking back over my life for whatever one is supposed to seek out.  But as I started thinking about my travels as coddiwomple I realized that maybe my life was been one long coddiwomple.

Travel Day

Sunday is a travel day. I’m moving from The Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale AL to Davis Bayou in Mississippi. It’s only a two hour drive. I like an easy travel day.

I’ll head out around 11 am CST. The most exciting part that I am aware of will be the tunnel in Mobile on Interstate 10.

I’m on a journey.
I have no destination.
There is no time frame.
I’m looking and seeing but not searching.
I am not lost and can’t be found.
I am just on my way.

Moving On

On November 1, 2012 I posted my first blog about this adventure, 500 Days to a New Life.  Now, several months past 500 days, my house is selling on October 31st.  After the sell I’ll be purchasing an RV and transitioning into life as a full timer living on the road.

The Blended Path pulled this card for me.

She offered this interpretation.

Ok, What I’m getting from this – forget the book…I know what this is about. The angels want you to be peaceful – to me this card, for you at this time, is about rebuilding your life. The angels want you to know that you’re on the right path – things are falling into place. You are being active and faithful, and you are trusting as you should. The angels say you are easy – you are submissive to the will of fortune and loss in your life (not sure what they mean by that but you will understand at some level or they wouldn’t have said it). They say you are a man of God, that you know how and do hear the voice of spirit, and that you should continue to listen in the ways that work for you. I am seeing from this card a death of an old life and beautiful rebirth of your life, complete with beautiful creativity and art, colors, and a lot of love and healing energy (in the background colors). I am also feeling like you should pay attention to the gray area at the bottom of the card – I think that there may be “road blocks” – no pun intended – in actually getting the RV you want, but the angels say to be picky. It’s important that you not settle on the home you choose. And so that’s what I’m seeing here. The book says, “to blossom and bloom, the work must be done, through fire and ash our fortune comes.” It talks about flowers being born from seeds.

She was right on track for my life.  I love her and the reading. I will be picky.

I think it is auspicious the house sells on Halloween.  How sweet is that? It also auspicious that I will be homeless on November 1, 2014, two years since I began working in earnest on this transition.

It is a bit scary (perfect for Halloween too).  It’s outside my comfort zone.  It will be different on the road alone and the time frame for getting rid of the rest of my stuff is really short.

It seems like it is getting to be time to go though.  My friends and family here are deeply involved in their own adventures.  They will miss me, but will soon go back to doing what they do and loving who they love.

A swamp tour wouldn’t be complete without seeing an alligator or two.

Our tour guide had one on board.  He spend a lot of time telling us about this alligator and how to handle it.  Then he passed it around the boat.  If you wanted to hold it, you could.  I did.  🙂

Back Story

Christy, Jesse, and I took the Amtrak Crescent from the train depot in Anniston AL to New Orleans for a week of adventure and photography. This train station is a classical revival depot and is listed in the National Registry of Historical Places. Jesse loves to ride the train. Heck, we all love to ride the train. We left August 8, 2013 and returned August 14th. Unfortunately Jeremy couldn’t go this time. He had to work.
Christy’s father was kind enough to drive us to the train station and pick us up so we wouldn’t have to leave a vehicle parked there for a week.
We stayed at our usual place, the historic 905 Royal Hotel in the French Quarter. The 905 Royal was built in the late 1890’s.
